Shibori (Triangle pattern/Quarter-fold)
Technique: Shibori (Triangle pattern/Quarter-fold)
Space between stitch pattern: approx. 1”
Stitch length: approx. 0.25”
Thread: Nylon size 69 (single)
Dye: 1 part sodium alginate 1 part 3% SS MX dye
Steps followed:
- Cloth is folded in half diagonally, repeat again
- Use a length of thread approximately 3-4” longer than the width of the line of pattern and secure one end with a quilters knot
- Stitch row of straight hand stitching beginning at mark and leaving the length of thread untrimmed and untied
- Continue with each pattern line
- Each thread is drawn up from the untied end and tightly knotted
- Cloth is painted with thickend dye applied liberally with a foam brush and batched for about 1 hour
- Cloth is washed and thread is pulled out
