Shibori (Triangle pattern/Quarter-fold)

Technique: Shibori (Triangle pattern/Quarter-fold)

Space between stitch pattern: approx. 1”
Stitch length: approx. 0.25”
Thread: Nylon size 69 (single)
Dye: 1 part sodium alginate 1 part 3% SS MX dye
 
Steps followed:
  1. Cloth is folded in half diagonally, repeat again
  2. Use a length of thread approximately 3-4” longer than the width of the line of pattern and secure one end with a quilters knot
  3. Stitch row of straight hand stitching beginning at mark and leaving the length of thread untrimmed and untied
  4. Continue with each pattern line
  5. Each thread is drawn up from the untied end and tightly knotted
  6. Cloth is painted with thickend dye applied liberally with a foam brush and batched for about 1 hour
  7. Cloth is washed and thread is pulled out
