Shibori (1.5” Whip-stitched)

Technique:  Shibori  (1.5” Whip-stitched)

Space between stitches: 1.5”
Stitch length: approx. 0.25”
Thread: Nylon size 69 (single)
Dye: 1 part sodium alginate 1 part 3% SS MX dye
 
Steps followed:
  1. Mark sample at 1.5” intervals down one side
  2. Use a length of thread approximately 3-4” longer than the width of the sample secure one end with a quilters knot
  3. Stitch row of whip stitches beginning at mark and leaving the length of thread untrimmed and untied
  4. Continue with each parallel row
  5. Each thread is drawn up from the untied end and tightly knotted
  6. Cloth is painted with thickend dye applied liberally with a foam brush and batched for about 1 hour
  7. Cloth is washed and thread is pulled out
