Shibori (Single Semi-circle pattern)

Technique:  Shibori (Single Semi-circle pattern)

Space between stitches: 0.5”
Stitch length: approx. 0.25”
Thread: Nylon size 69 (single)
Dye: 1 part sodium alginate 1 part 3% SS MX dye
 
Steps followed:
  1. Fold cloth in half and mark pattern as wanted
  2. Use a length of thread approximately 3” longer than the length of the line to be sewn and secure one end with a quilters knot
  3. Stitch row of straight hand stitching following the pattern and leaving the length of thread untrimmed and untied
  4. Continue with each parallel row
  5. Each thread is drawn up from the untied end and tightly knotted
  6. Cloth is painted with thickend dye applied liberally with a foam brush and batched for about 1 hour
  7. Cloth is washed and thread is pulled out
