Technique: Shibori (0.5” Stitched)
Space between stitches: 0.5”
Stitch length: approx. 0.25”
Thread: Nylon size 69 (single)
Dye: 1 part sodium alginate 1 part 3% SS MX dye
Steps followed:
- Mark sample at 0.5” intervals down one side
- Use a length of thread approximately 3-4” longer than the width of the sample secure one end with a quilters knot
- Stitch row of straight hand stitching beginning at mark and leaving the length of thread untrimmed and untied
- Continue with each parallel row
- Each thread is drawn up from the untied edn and tightly knotted
- Cloth is painted with thickened dye applied liberally with a foam brush and batched for about 1 hour
- Cloth is washed and thread is pulled out
