Slashed Tucks (Shark's Teeth, Snipped Fringe)

Technique: Slashed Tuck (Shark's Teeth, Snipped Fringe)
These are "spaced or blind tucks at least 1/2" wide cross-cut at regular intervals between fold and seam." (Wolff, p.167)
Materials: Cotton broadcloth
Spacing/Size: 1/2" pin tucks spaced 1" apart
Folding Methods: Pin tucks and ironing
Anchoring methods: Sewn and ironed
Notes and Reflections: Advantages, Disadvantages, Ideas, Evaluations
• Begin with a spaced standard tuck and then cut, fold and iron tucks as desired
• This example shows variations of two techniques: shark's teeth and snipped fringe
• 1/2" should be the minimum size for shark's teeth, but ideally it would be larger

Advantages:
• Snip fringe is a very fast variation on a traditional tuck

Disadvantages:
• Shark's teeth can be tedious ironing work depending on the scale of the piece

Ideas for Exploration:
• Use in combination with blind tucks so that the textures would overlap
• Varying the placement of the shark's teeth to get a more interesting pattern
• Using an unevenly dyed or striped fabric would be dynamic
