Pin Tucks (Partially Seamed and Released)

Technique: Pin Tucks (Partially Seamed and Released)
“Parallel tucks with portions of their seams unstitched, releasing loose folds from the seamed folds.” (Wolff, p. 175)
Materials: Bleached cotton, cotton sewing thread
Spacing/Size: Random (approx.1/2”-1/4”)
Folding Methods: Fold randomly
Anchoring methods: Top stitch at uneven increments at top and bottom of tucks
Notes and Reflections: Advantages, Disadvantages, Ideas, Evaluations
• Off colored thread is used in the sample to illustrate that the stitching can stop and start

Advantages:
• Gives the fabric stability at top and bottom with a lot of room/give in center
• Good if fabric needs to expand (at a waistline)

Disadvantages:
• Need to control back stitching more as it really shows up

Ideas for Exploration:
• Garments
• Accents on home goods
• Variegated thread
• Thread same color as fabric
