Shirring (Overlapping on Muslin)

Technique:  Shirring (Overlapping on Muslin)
Materials: Cotton muslin
Spacing/Size:
Gathering Methods: Parallel rows of machine stitching pulled to gather (longest stitch length), Only pull bobbin thread
Anchoring methods: Tightly pulled thread is enough to secure samples
Notes and Reflections: Advantages, Disadvantages, Ideas, Evaluations
These samples demonstrate shirring on muslin and demonstrate experimentation with overlapping shirring

Advantages:
• Muslin allows for easy pulling of the threads and decreases breakage

Disadvantages:
• Requires patience to not break the bobbin thread used to gather
• Difficult to finish the edges gathering without breakage

Ideas for Exploration:
• Use stronger thread (nylon)
