Shirring (2" Wave Pattern)

Technique:  Shirring (2" Wave Pattern)
Materials: Cotton sateen

Gathering Methods: Rows of machine stitching pulled to gather (longest stitch length); Only pull bobbin thread
Anchoring methods: Tightly pulled thread is enough to secure samples
Notes and Reflections: Advantages, Disadvantages, Ideas, Evaluations
• This sample was made following a light penciled pattern on the fabric using a regular foot
• Gathers begin to overlap one another with the wave as opposed to a completely straight gathers

Advantages:
• Can basically make any sort of linear shape to create the shirring

Disadvantages:

Ideas for Exploration:
• Make samples as noted on p.38 (Wolff) with gathering foot
• Exaggerated patterns to see if it would show more clearly
• Shibori pattern
